Summer Reading Kick-Off

All Summer Reading Program participation is optional! Summer Reading Program 2025 runs June 23 thru August 8 for all ages.

Summer Reading Kick-off w/ Skipper (Registration Optional)

Monday, June 23 1:00-2:00pm

Sign up for the Summer Reading, Norwellopoly for Adults, BINGO Game Card for teen readers and a raffle ticket for kids.

Then head on out to the Kona Ice Truck for a scoop of shaved ice (while supplies last). Skipper the therapy dog will be in attendance!

Summer Reading Challenges

Children’s Reading Challenge:

Children entering PreK through entering Grade 6 may be registered for the Library's Summer Reading Program. For every day that you read (15 minutes or more) mark it off on your log. For every 10 days read, bring your reading log in to enter one of our raffles sponsored by the Friends of the Norwell Public Library. Multiple logs can be done until Friday, August 8 after which raffle prizes will be drawn. Earn BONUS raffle tickets on special days by attending select library programs.  Logs can be downloaded here or picked up at the library. Link to the summer reading log will be available Sunday, June 22.

Teen Reading Challenge:

Teens grades 6 thru 12 can register for the Summer Reading Program for the chance to win fun prizes this summer. Complete horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines on a bingo board to earn raffle tickets to use to enter one of our many raffles. Among these fun prizes are movie tickets to Showcase Cinema de Lux, gift cards to Target, Hornstra Farms, and Ryan’s Family Amusements. Due by August 9. Teens can earn bonus raffle tickets by attending select library programs.

Adult Reading Challenge:

This year we are introducing the NORWELLOPOLY reading challenge! Complete game board sheet for 9+ entrants into our raffle for a chance to win 1 of 2 prize collections: Prize 1, Prize 2 . Download the Norwellopoly challenge or stop by the library for a printed copy. Complete by August 8. Raffle winners announced August 15.

The Massachusetts Statewide Summer Library Program is funded by the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Summer Reading Lists 2025

  • Students entering grade 6 should read at least one book off List A from the Sixth Grade list and at least one additional book. Your one additional book can be a book off List B or any other book that is interesting! Daily reading over the summer is encouraged to help students keep both their reading skills and stamina strong. Reading should be enjoyable and students are encouraged to read any books that interest them, even if they are not on this list.

  • During the summer, incoming 7th Graders will read two books. All 7th Grade Students Are Required To Read: No Purchase Necessary by Maria Marianayagam

    Complete this assignment while reading the book over the summer.

    Printed packets were distributed to students on step-up day.

    Students must read one additional book from this list below.

    Students should be prepared to complete a project during the first week of school. You can view the list here.

  • Students entering grade 8 should read Trouble by Gary D. Schmidt and at least one title from this list. In September, students will complete an in class writing assignment on Trouble. Students will also complete a project on their choice book.

  • Grades 9 through 12 can be located upon this list. Each grade level may vary in tasks that need to be complete.
