Search Tips

Basic Searching

  1. Type your search terms in the "Search For" box.
  2. Select the type of search you want to conduct. "Keyword" finds records containing the words you typed. "Browse" brings you to an alphabetical list of items. "Exact" finds records that exactly match your search words. If using more than one term, type "and" in between them. For example: "Shel Silverstein and giving tree".
  3. Select the category you want to search (title, author, subject, etc.). If using more than one category, click "Everything".
  4. Select the location where you want to search. You can search individual libraries such as just Norwell's holdings or you could choose "All" which allows you to search all 27 libraries in the OCLN Network at once.
  5. Click on the "Search" button to begin the search.

Locating an item

  1. Once you have found the item you want, click on the "Full Details" button. This will bring up the full record of the item.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the screen or click on "Click here for Item Location" to see which libraries own it and which copies are available.
  3. If it is not available in Norwell, you can still place the item on hold.

Search by Author

  1. Type the name of the author, actor, musician, or singer in the "Search For" box. For example: "King, Stephen", "Beethoven", or "Robert Redford". Capital letters are not necessary.
  2. Leave the circle next to "Keyword" highlighted.
  3. Select the location where you want to search. You can search individual libraries such as just Norwell's holdings or you could choose "All" which allows you to search all 27 libraries in the OCLN Network at once.
  4. Click "Author" to begin search.

Searching by Title

  1. Type the title of a book, movie, album, etc. in the "Search For" box. For example: "To Kill a Mockingbird", "Citizen Kane", or "Abbey Road". Capital letters are not necessary.
  2. Click in the "Browse" circle.
  3. Select the location where you want to search. You can search individual libraries such as just Norwell's holdings or you could choose "All" which allows you to search all 27 libraries in the OCLN Network at once.
  4. Click "Title" to begin search. This search will bring up your title within an alphabetical list of titles. Click the "Full Details" button for the title you want to bring up the full record.

Searching by Subject

  1. Type the subject term(s) in the "Search For" box. Remember to put the word "and" in between terms. For example: "French Revolution", "cats and fiction", or "skateboarding and juvenile literature". Capital letters are not necessary.
  2. Leave the circle next to "Keyword" highlighted.
  3. Select the location where you want to search. You can search individual libraries such as just Norwell's holdings or you could choose "All" which allows you to search all 27 libraries in the OCLN Network at once.
  4. Click "Subject" to begin search.

Basic Searching

You can leisurely browse through subjects using the catalog's picture based "Just for Kids" feature. This will conduct a search of children's material in all 27 libraries in the OCLN Network.

Audio/Video/Large Print

  1. To search for an audio cassette or CD, video (VHS or DVD), or a large print book, click on "Audio/Video/Large Print" button.
  2. Click on the format you want to search "Audio cassette & compact disc" (includes both audio books and music), "Video cassette and DVD", or "Large Print Materials".
  3. Continue as you normally would for a search.
