Placing a hold
- If an item is owned by another library, already checked out, or otherwise unavailable, you usually can place a hold on it.
- Search the online catalog for the item you want and click on "Full Details" to access the full record of the item.
- Click on the "Hold" icon (the little white hand) on the right hand side of the purple box.
- User ID is the barcode on your library card with no spaces and the default PIN is "ocln". Be sure to choose the library where you would like to pick up the item. Do NOT choose "OCLN Central Site" as your pickup location. This may result in a delay or cancellation of your hold. You can change the pickup location by using the arrow at the right edge of the box to scroll through the choices.
- Click on "Place Hold". A new screen will then come up to confirm your hold.
- When the library receives the item, you will be notified by either phone or email. You can also check on the status of your requested holds by accessing your account information through the "My Account" feature of the online catalog.
- If you search ALL libraries for an item that is not available, a link will appear for the Virtual Catalog. Just follow the link, select your library and login with your library card number. The Virtual Library will allow you to search for and place holds on items throughout Massachusetts.
- If you are still unable to locate the item, call the library at (781) 659-2015 or email noill@ocln.org.
